While looking for birthday presents for my big sister at my favorite bookstore, I came across a sticker that I just had to buy:

Normally I am not one for bumper stickers. A Christian bumper sticker is probably the last thing I’d put on my car because, let’s face it, when is the last time you thought something nice about another driver? That being said, I still sport my old Trinity parking pass with pride, but that’s on my windshield.
But I digress.
Anyway, I found this “reading is sexy” sticker and I just had to buy it. I had to. How could I not? Enter moral dilemma: do I put it on my car? Part of me wants to so badly, but the other part (probably my better judgment) says no. What would I tell my six-year-old niece if she were to ask about it during her visit this summer?
If one of my sexy, bibliophile friends (you know who you are) will put the sticker on her car, I will gladly pass it on. If not, I suppose I will use it as a bookmark. Such a waste…
I think you ought to put it on your car! Your six-year old niece would only ask about it if she has heard the word “sexy”, which I’m sure she has, in which case you can explain it ;) After all, the bumper sticker just tells the truth.
I have a friend who went to Multnomah, and she has this bumper sticker on her car (minus the girl in glasses). Plus she’s a teacher. I think you should go for it…just stick it to the window, in case you ever change your mind.
This presumes that your neice has not yet discovered the Internet, or if she has won’t Google you ;)
I’d like to turn your attention to a May 2008 study entitled, “Territorial Markings as a Predictor of Driver Aggression and Road Rage” from the Journal of Applied Social Psychology which found that “[b]oth number of territory markers (e.g., bumper stickers, decals) and attachment to the vehicle were significant predictors of aggressive driving. Mere presence of a territory marker predicts increased use of the vehicle to express anger and decreased use of adaptive/constructive expressions.”
Granted, there is still a question of causation versus correlation. Interesting nonetheless though.

Your niece will be bombarded with messages about what is sexy anyway, so maybe it’d be a good opportunity to talk about the subject in a healthy manner.
Hey remember that shirt you have with this exact phrase on it? Oh wait and it matched to others…
umm I mean to say two others… (you know as in the number 2)
If reading is so sexy how come my wife gets annoyed at me for spending all evening reading blogs? :-)
You need to ask?
Don’t read and drive!
